A great piece of contemporaneous Titanic history! Rare and extraordinary letter written and dated one day after the sinking of Titanic, April 16, 1912. The letter specifically mentions the Titanic by name, and mentions the names of two first class passengers with whom the writer was familiar. The passengers are named DH Bishop and Mr Beckwith, and are from Dowagiac, Michigan amd New York City. A check of the passenger list shows that these individuals did indeed survive the sinking of Titanic.
Mr and Mrs DH Bishop were on Titanic returning from a four-month honeymoon in Europe, accompanied by their dog Frou-Frou. Mrs Bishop was pregnant, and the baby was born December, 1912 (living only 2 days).
The Bishops were rescued by Carpathia in Titanic's Lifeboat 7. The dog did not survive. Mr and Mrs Beckwith travelled with their daughter Helen Newsom and were rescued in Lifeboat 5.The item "APRIL 16 1912 LETTER MENTIONS TITANIC PASSENGERS BISHOP BECKWITH WHITE STAR LINE" is in sale since Thursday, February 02, 2017.
