RARE White Star Line Wisteria Cup and Saucer 1st Class Titanic & Olympic 1906
Olympia, which saw a relatively long life at sea... This cup and saucer set is considered a "chocolate" cup and saucer because of the shape of the cup. It was made for White Star Lines by Stoniers of England.

The saucer measures 5 1/2 in diameter and is free of any crazing or chips. There is just a very tight hairline (shown in the last picture) that does not penetrate to the inside of the cup and does not compromise the structural soundness of the saucer.

It measures about a half inch long from the rim. The cup is in excellent shape with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs.. Looks to have seen little use.

It measures 2 1/4" high and 2 1/2" in diameter at the top. Both the cup and saucer are made in the "Wisteria pattern" which was used in 1st class only.

The White Star Logo with the red flag and single white star is prominent in both pieces and both are perfectly legible with little to no wear. The only thing I ever found in the past 25 years as a dealer in china and pottery was a similar grouping from the Lusitania. I always found it amazing that these pieces had to have been stolen by a member of the staff or by a passenger. If you could afford a first class ticket aboard the Titanic or the Olympia, stealing a cup and saucer as a memento seems quite unnecessary.

I suppose all they needed to do was ask for some china as a memento and the staff would likely make it happen. The base of both cup and saucer have the matching registry numbers of: "RN 117214 RN 324028" and then 10/1905 on the saucer base (for October, 1905) and 5/1906 for the cup (for May 1906). The very small and tight hairline is not an issue because it does not penetrate to the inside of the cup. This set even has most of it's gilding on the edges in tact with very little wear.
