A rare and imposing White Star Line serving tray. Decorated with the White Star burgee to the centre encircled with a trefoil clover design.
This is enclosed with an acanthus foliate pattern and the rim is formed of an entwined rope design. The whole is raised upon four stylised feet repeating the acanthus design of the surface. 14 inches across by one and a quarter inches high. Manufactured by Elkington & Co, the design suggests an early 20th century date of manufacture coinciding with the launch of the great liners such as Titanic and Olympic.Undoubtedly manufactured for use in first class areas on the early White Star liners such as the dining rooms, veranda cafes etc. These were inspired by the great London hotels such as the Savoy/Connaught etc. A truly fabulous piece liner memorabilia.
